How to Install IPTV on Firestick – Step-by-Step Guide
The Amazon Firestick is the most popular device for watching IPTV in the UK, and for good reason. It is affordable, portable, powerful, and incredibly easy to set up. In this comprehensive guide, we will walk you through every step of installing and configuring IPTV on your Amazon Firestick, from initial setup to advanced optimisation tips.
Whether you have a Firestick Lite, Firestick 4K, or the latest Firestick 4K Max, this guide covers all models. By the end, you will have a fully configured IPTV setup with access to over 20,000 live TV channels, movies, and on-demand content through BingeHD.
What You Will Need
Before we begin, make sure you have the following items ready. You will need an Amazon Firestick (any model), a TV with an HDMI port, a stable internet connection (minimum 10 Mbps for HD, 25 Mbps recommended for 4K), an Amazon account (required for initial Firestick setup), and an active IPTV subscription from a provider like BingeHD. If you do not have a BingeHD subscription yet, you can start with the free 3-day trial to follow along with this guide.
Step 1: Initial Firestick Setup
If your Firestick is brand new, plug it into your TV's HDMI port and connect the USB power cable to the included power adapter. Important — always use the included power adapter rather than your TV's USB port, as the TV port may not provide enough power for stable performance. Turn on your TV and select the correct HDMI input. The Firestick will boot up and guide you through the initial setup process, including connecting to your Wi-Fi network and signing into your Amazon account.
Once the initial setup is complete and you are on the Firestick home screen, make sure your device is running the latest software. Go to Settings, then My Fire TV, then About, and select Check for Updates. Install any available updates before proceeding, as this ensures maximum compatibility with IPTV apps.
Step 2: Enable Developer Options
To install IPTV apps on your Firestick, you need to enable the installation of apps from unknown sources. This is necessary because the best IPTV player apps are not available on the Amazon App Store. Navigate to Settings from the home screen. Select My Fire TV, then Developer Options. If you do not see Developer Options, go to About and click on your Fire TV name seven times rapidly — this will unlock the developer menu.
Once in Developer Options, find the option labelled "Install Unknown Apps" or "Apps from Unknown Sources" (the wording varies by Firestick model and software version). You will need to enable this permission for the Downloader app, which we will install in the next step. On newer Firestick models, you grant this permission on a per-app basis rather than as a global toggle.
Step 3: Install the Downloader App
The Downloader app is a free utility that allows you to download files and apps directly to your Firestick using a URL. This is the safest and most reliable method for installing IPTV apps. Open the Amazon App Store on your Firestick (the shopping bag icon on the home screen) and search for "Downloader". Look for the app by AFTVnews — it has an orange icon. Install it and open it once the installation is complete.
When you first open Downloader, it will ask for permission to access files on your device. Grant this permission. You will then see a simple browser interface with a URL input field at the top. This is where you will enter the download links for your IPTV player apps.
Step 4: Install Your IPTV Player App
There are several excellent IPTV player apps available for Firestick. We recommend the following options based on our extensive testing:
Option A: TiviMate (Recommended)
TiviMate is widely considered the best IPTV player for Firestick. It offers a beautiful, TV-optimised interface, comprehensive EPG (Electronic Programme Guide), multi-view for watching multiple channels simultaneously, recording capabilities, and favourites management. The free version is fully functional, while the premium version (a one-time purchase of approximately £5) unlocks additional features like multiple playlist support and catch-up TV.
To install TiviMate, you can find it directly on the Amazon App Store. Search for "TiviMate" and install it. Alternatively, if you want the latest version, use the Downloader app to download the APK from the official TiviMate website.
Option B: IPTV Smarters Pro
IPTV Smarters Pro is an excellent free alternative with a clean interface and easy setup process. It supports Xtream Codes login (the format used by BingeHD), M3U playlists, and has built-in parental controls. Open the Downloader app and enter the URL for the IPTV Smarters Pro APK. The download will begin automatically. Once downloaded, you will be prompted to install the app — tap Install to proceed.
Step 5: Configure Your IPTV Player with BingeHD
Now that your IPTV player is installed, it is time to add your BingeHD subscription. When you subscribe to BingeHD, you receive your login credentials via email within minutes. These credentials include your username, password, and server URL. You can use either the Xtream Codes login method or the M3U URL — BingeHD supports both.
Open your installed IPTV player (TiviMate or IPTV Smarters Pro). Select "Add Playlist" or "Add New User". Choose the Xtream Codes option and enter your BingeHD credentials — the server URL, username, and password from your welcome email. Tap Connect or Login. The app will connect to BingeHD's servers and load your channel list. This may take a minute or two on the first load as it downloads the full EPG data.
Step 6: Organise Your Channels
Once your channels are loaded, you will see them organised into categories such as UK Entertainment, UK Sports, UK Movies, USA Channels, and so on. Take some time to browse through the categories and add your favourite channels to a Favourites list for quick access. In TiviMate, you can long-press on any channel and select "Add to Favourites". In IPTV Smarters Pro, tap the star icon next to the channel name.
We recommend creating custom groups for the channels you watch most frequently. For example, you might create groups for "Daily Watching", "Sports", and "Movies". This makes navigating through 20,000+ channels much more manageable.
Optimising Performance on Firestick
To get the best possible IPTV experience on your Firestick, follow these optimisation tips. First and most importantly, consider using an ethernet connection instead of Wi-Fi. The Amazon Ethernet Adapter for Fire TV costs around £15 and provides a much more stable connection than Wi-Fi, virtually eliminating buffering caused by wireless interference.
Clear the cache of your IPTV app regularly. Go to Settings, then Applications, then Manage Installed Applications, find your IPTV player, and select Clear Cache. This prevents the app from slowing down over time. Do not select Clear Data, as this will remove your login credentials and settings.
Disable automatic updates and notifications for apps you do not use. This frees up system resources and reduces background data usage, leaving more bandwidth and processing power for your IPTV streams. You can also disable Data Monitoring and App Usage Data collection in Settings to further improve performance.
Troubleshooting Common Issues
Buffering or Freezing
Buffering is the most common issue reported by IPTV users on Firestick. The most effective solutions are: switch to an ethernet connection, reduce stream quality from 4K to HD in your IPTV player settings, restart your router and Firestick, clear the IPTV app cache, and ensure no other devices on your network are consuming excessive bandwidth. BingeHD's anti-freeze technology handles most buffering issues automatically, but network-side problems require the solutions above.
App Not Installing
If you cannot install your IPTV player, double-check that you have enabled "Install Unknown Apps" for the Downloader app in Developer Options. Also ensure your Firestick has sufficient storage space — go to Settings, then My Fire TV, then About, and check Available Storage. If storage is low, uninstall apps you no longer use.
Channels Not Loading
If channels fail to load after entering your credentials, verify that your username, password, and server URL are entered correctly with no extra spaces. Check that your BingeHD subscription is active by logging into your account on the BingeHD website. If issues persist, try switching between Xtream Codes login and M3U URL methods. Contact BingeHD's 24/7 support team if you need further assistance.
Recommended Firestick Models for IPTV
While all Firestick models work with IPTV, some offer a better experience than others. The Firestick 4K Max is our top recommendation — it has the fastest processor, supports Wi-Fi 6E, and handles 4K streams effortlessly. The standard Firestick 4K is a great mid-range option that handles HD and 4K content well. The basic Firestick Lite is suitable for HD streaming but may struggle with 4K content.
